We are thrilled to announce that former Real Internacional Defender, Mateus, has officially signed with USL Championship Side Tampa Bay Rowdies.

After showcasing his talent in our Academy Program during the 2023/24 season, Mateus went on to impress during trials with Spanish clubs such as Malaga CF, Tiro Pichon, Puerto Malagueño and 26 de Febrero before ultimately joining Velez CF’s U23 team.

Academy Director, William Robinson, had the following to say:

It was very clear during Teus' time at our academy that he was a certain type of talent that you don't often come across. How he can technically and tactically change the game and dominates with-in the physical aspect, was second to none. It's clear that he still has certain aspects of his football that he has to develop, I am sure at the Rowdies and in the USL Championship he will come on leaps and bounds and take further steps in his career.

Mateus' contributions were instrumental in Velez’s U23s earning promotion from Segunda Andaluza to Primera Andaluza, a testament to his skill and dedication on the field. Now embarking on a new chapter in the 2nd Division of Football in the United States, we extend our best wishes to Mateus and his family as he continues to excel and build himself a career in football!
